Founder and Managing Director, UDA Consultants Ltd

Joseph Kwan has practiced architecture in Australia, United Kingdom and France; and founded the practice UDA Consultants Ltd., a specialist consultancy on Universal Design and Accessibility in 2005.
He has over 40 years’ experience in architecture, of which 30 years has been focused on projects in universal design and accessibility to the built environment, transportation and inclusive tourism. He is:
• Director, International Union of Architects (UIA) Region IV Work Programme (1999 -)
• UIA Representative, on reviewing of ISO Standard
• Deputy Vice-President Asia Pacific, Rehabilitation International (RI)
• RI-ICTA Global Chair (2006-16)
• Inaugural Chair, ARCASIA Committee on Social Responsibility
• Member of the Hong Kong Government’s Rehabilitation Advisory Committee (RAC)
• Convenor of RAC-Subcommittee on Access
• Served on the Building Committee of the Housing Authority, the ACBFA Committee of the Buildings Department, and the Access Work Group of the Equal Opportunities Commission Hong Kong
• Served as Vice-President of the Hong Kong Institute of Architects and the Vice-Chair of the Architects Registration Board Hong Kong.
• Served as the Chair of the Quality Building Award 2004
• Member of EXCO, ACMCD, CoATT of the Hong Kong Society for Rehabilitation
• Member of Committees of the Hong Kong Society for the Blind
He has lectured globally in 34 countries on universal access and inclusive design.
